Do these guys really like anything? I have 2 in my planted 7 gal. bowfront and I've tried frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, and krill and they'll eat it once it hits the ground but its not like they go crazy over it or anything.

Is this normal behavior for these little guys or are they really asking for something more exotic?

That is a very good question. I have had 2 for over 6 weeks, and they act the same way. Obviously they are eating as they are still alive, and they look healthy, but they have the attitude like "Food? Oh yeah, I'll get some in a minute."

Mine are as active as anything, so I am just going to have to say that it is just they way they are. One reason could be that they do not feel comforable eating out in the open as most other aquarium kept fish are. Due to there size, letting gaurd down to eat in the open can be a fatal mistake in the wild, but not so much in the home aquarium.

Just a theroy. If any one has more insite on this please comment.

The first one I had would only eat frozen bloodworms. No flake. I assumed he was also eating snails. When he did eat he would gorge himself on the bloodworms. My newest dwarf puffer seems to eat just about anything and lots of it, usually before it hits the ground. Bloodworms, brine shrimp, flake, etc.

If you can get a supply of live bloodworms or brine shrimp that you are fairly certain to be parasite free (grow them yourself, it's cheap), the dwarf puffers will eat better, and be more healthy. They don't really care for freeze dried to much, they like to eat it live. Hope this helps.
