I'm looking for all the info I can get on these guys. Are they truly freshwater fish?

I'm sure they would attack the residents of my current tank, so I'd be setting up a new one just for them. What would be the best size aquarium, number of puffers to get and general setup? Can they live with any other kind of fish, crustaceans or inverts?

Lets see, i own 2 dwarf puffers

Yes they are truly freshwater fish, the best ph i would recommend for them ia about 7.0. I'd say 2-3 gallons per puffer, because they are very territorial, fin nippers. The tnak should be planted, live or plastic, heavily and they should be fed live or Frozen brine shrimp. i've had my puffers with CAE and ghost shrimp, but most small ghost shrimp will be eatina nd i think my puffers are ncier than most :)

I'd put them with fast fish, no long fins, always moving

i had two of these little guys. they are cool and fun to watch but mine were pretty bad fin nippers. needless to say, they only resided in my community tank for about 2 days and then i moved them to my 5 gal. they made it ok in there for about 2 weeks but then they both kicked the bucket. i've read that they can be pretty passive but the two i got were little heathens.

I have 2 dwarfs (they are freshwater) in a 7 gallon tank with an otto cat. The tank has drfitwood, live plants, generally runs at 80 degrees, with a pH of 7.8 (kind of high but everyone in the tank is active and happy)

They are great litle fish, finicky with food but cute as hell and very active. They don't bother the Otto at all, they seem to enjoy chasing after each other every now and then.
