Dying betta

My betta is not well. He seems to have gone through a shredder. His fins are all ripped up, and he is swimming on his side. He is still breathing , but he only swims to get a breath of air.. He is in a glass bowl right now, with about a gallon of water in it.

My betta has died. he was still swimming untill three minutes ago. I guess it was his time, as he was about six months old. I feel so bad that I don't know what was wrong with him

sorry for your loss did his fins look like they were almost rotting? if so it couldve been fin rot...

I am sorry about your Betta. One of our neon tetras died due to his tail fin almost falling off. There were two small white spots and on his last day, it looked like there were two bites taken from him (one on top and one on bottom). Needless to say, he couldn't swim at all and died. I still don't know what exactly happened.

Sounds as though it was likely fin rot. BTW, bettas can live for several years if properly cared for.

Thanx all for your kind words and thoughts. Himmel will be missed by my family for a long time. I also think it was fin rot, TurbineSurgeon,though most fish I have seen with this disease don't die in six hours. Also,his fins didn't look as though they were rotting, just looked as if they were torn or ripped, which is why I asked this question here. Thank you all again for your help
