I can never keep snails alive in my tank longer than a month or two. At first they're there, and then they dissappear. Then after a while I find an empty shell. Are they that sensitive to water conditions? I mean, none of my fish seemed to be interested in eating the snails, so I figure they die on their own.
I've only had little snails - ones that either came with my plants, or I picked off the side of the tank at the petstore when no one's looking (little brown ones that are not for sale, but are just kinda there, prolly arrived to the store with the plants). I really like having a snail or two in my tank - I find it somewhat entertaining waching them go at the sides of the tank with that radula.
Are bigger snails generally hardier than small ones? If I buy a big snail and put it in my tank, would it survive better than small ones? Also, what snails do the least damage to plants? The little brown snails I've had didn't bother the plants at all, pretty much - the cories did more damage than the snails.
