Eclipse hood and filter media

Hi all,

I am running a small Eclipse 6 tank and am looking at different ways to change it. I don't use carbon, but I just started using an old cartridge cut up and stuffed with filter floss with a micro-filter paper on top. My question is this: Could I pack some bio-media (substrate, Biomax, Effisubstrat) in the top compartment, and would the flow characteristics of the hood allow the bacteria to work efficently????

best bet would be to just leave the bio-wheel in place, its really hard to beat its convienence and effiecency, especially in an eclipse system.

But since you feel otherwise, I am going to say yes the flow is suffiecent.

Well I like the bio wheel, but I am not using the filter compartment. I wasn't clear, I was planning on keeping the wheel in place at the same time. I wouldn't mind more bio-filtration since the goldfish in their at this time is sloppy.

Go for it, modify a bag to hold your filter media and then fit in the hood, once that is done you can just go right ahead and run it, as long as the water is flowing through and around it it works, give it a shot.
