Eheim Ecco 2231 media filter....need help

I just got eheim ecco 2231 filter...can somebody suggest, what media filter I can put in it?
and it includes the carbon filter pad...I read on this forum that carbon is not good for planted tank..
and how about ehfisubstrate? ehfilav? ehfisynth? ehfifix? efimech? do you guys use that media in your eheim filter for planted tanks? is eheim spray bar sold separately? cause the eheim ecco doesn't come w/ spray bar.

I dont even use media that is specificly for my filters. I buy 'filter floss' or synethnic wool (or whatever you call it. Used for making blankets, pillows, etc) from Walmart and I buy sponges that are used to wash cars with. Very cheap! I just cut to fit my filter! I have found that the so called filters in the lfs are the same stuff. I do not use any chemical filters on any of my filters.
