hi,

i currently have a 55 gallon with 2 filters in my tank. one is an aquaclear and the other one is a topfin (came with the tank). both of these are the ones you hang on the side of the tank. i really detest both. mostly because the aquaclear is threatening to overflow and both are very loud as the water falls into the tank.
i have been thinking of getting an eheim canister filter but i'm not sure which one and if they are any quieter. i hate how loud our tank is since it's in the living room.
anyone have any recommendations about which site would sell them for the cheapest? as i've looked and they all seem expensive.
anyone have these filters? i've only read good things about them but i'd love to hear from others who have them and which models. i'm looking for one that isn't the most expensive.
(i live in canada too, but can order into the states - but would prefer a canadian place to order)

well I have a eheim 2215 on the tank in my room because I hate the sound of trickling water (cant fall asleep with it going) so instead of the hang on back filters which you have I got the eheim and I love it. Its silent and as long as you clean it every 4-6 months it runs fine. I love my eheim. I bought mine at my lfs, but at www.bigalsonline.com ive found it was the cheapest their, it was about 20-30 dollars cheaper their I think then what I bought it at

yeah bigals is prob the best place i have seen to get stuff off the net

i was looking around for cannisters when i got my big tank

Ehiem, Fuval,Rena XP were all on a list of people liking them

but after researching i found the Rena XP to best suit my needs, with stackable filtration trays for easy clean up... as well as being supereasy to prime, once primed i havnt needed to prime it again, its also really quite, the spray bar makes more noise than the pump... but i guess thats true with just about any canister, if you dont want a loud water sound you can submerge the spray bar so it dosnt "kick" up a lot of water and such

its also not as expensive a Ehiem, but a little bit more than a Fluval so its right in the middle of the road as far as price goes
