does anyone know how often the gasket on a ehiem2026 be replaced.

I found my filter leaking after cleaning it last night.
check the assembly many times, but it stiil leak.

finally i had to lift my filter higher to reduce the pressure on the cannister and put some sheet of paper at the clamp to clamp down the filter head tighter.

now need to get a new gasket and a psare one too.

do you put on some vaseline routinely on this gasket? it might get dried up if it's not coated with some type of lubricant. i got mine new and haven't cleaned it yet. i dont recall reading some replacement schedule on the manual, but are you sure it is the gasket?

Yes..it is the gasket. I nearly went mad working on it. each time i reassemble the filter, the filter will leak each time I close the level locking the inlet and outlet.

I tried taking out one of the filtration tray to ensure no obstruction still it leak.

I finally took the filter out and operated it in my bathroom...had enough of moping up my living room.
use a pail on a stool. The leakage would stop if i press down on the head.

As for the vasaline, i only put it on when i got the leak.. too late i guess.

Perhaps, a spare gasket coated with vasaline stored in a cool place might be a handy spare.

btw I've running it over 2 years with no prior problems.
I replace the filter media once in 3 months.

yeah it could be the gasket then, it could be that it get dried and bristled, it didn't get vaseline.
it's probably a couple of dollar for that rubber. i wouldn't get a spare one until a couple of years later or so.

I still like my ehiem filter.

just going to add this to my lesson learn.

I think watching the thickness of the gasket each time I clean up the filter will go into my check list.

yes...and of course silicon grease that piece of rubber

My 2026 also started leaking after being cleaned, but after using a screwdriver to wipe out the gunk from the O-ring in the lid, it stopped. I also reconnected one of the four plastic handles back to the base. These handles do come loose, and you must make sure that they are actually clipped on in the middle to the small bars provided on the base. If these handles are not connected properly to the base before connecting them to the lid, the filter will leak.

Regards.

P.S. I've wanted to ask other 2026 users whether they use an air pump, or whether they feel that the spray-bar creates sufficient water turbulence.

i dont have the 2026, but i have the 2028. i use air pump as well. i used to use the spray bar on the top of the water column and it reduces the stream. now i dont use it. without the spray bar, the turbulence is great and it seems to assist in cleaning the tank faster.

I set the spray bar pointing toward the glass, else the turbulence was too great. I did not want to lower the flow rate by controlling the level.

I was thinking the more suction the better.

I do not use a air pump, i just set the spray bar at the water level, see lots of tiny air bubbles.

I'm very new to fish keeping.

I have the 2217 and have been wondering the exact same thing.

My output tube doesn't have any holes in it like the picture shows.

I have it pointed so that it makes small waves in the top of the water.

Is there a way to check to see if the fish are getting enough O2?

YT,

How big is your tank? I'm thinking about switching to a 2026 for a 30 gal freshwater . . . mostly smaller fish . . gouramis, sharks, neons, etc . . I'm concerned it might be too big, flow wise. Your thoughts?

Thanks.

my tank is 50 gallon. My tank consist of smaller fish too.
tetras, glass catfish, clown loach, cory.

but if u look at the 2026 flow rate, I think it an overkill.

however, i beleive the more flow the merrier. I think u can always find some way to break the flow. blast it agaist the glass etc.

anyway the 2026 has a flow control.

Regarding my earlier problem of leakage, the root cause was indeed the gasket.

I compared the old gasket, it lost about 0.5mm of thickness.

I also realise i made a mistake in positioning the finally filtration wool layer. I place in in the filter basket instead of above it. this could have over allow the gasket to be over compress causing it to finally lose thickness( 2yrs) which resulted in leakage.
