I saw lots of these guys at my LFS and thought they seemed like they'd fit into a large enough community tank.  Would they mix well into a community tank?   Are there any fish that work well with them or fish that don't work at all?

Not good in a community tank as they are one of the more aggresive African Cichlids. They are best in a Rift Lake Mbuna set-up, as they can then bully other mbunas and get bullied back in turn.

I would NOT add them to a Community Tank.

1. they prefer high pH,hardness water to maintain colour.  If you have 'normal' community fish they're unlikely to appreciate this.
2.  They're very agressive high energy fish, and normal community fish really won't appreciate this.

Very bad buy for the community

probably not in a tanganikiya or utaka community
certainly not in an acid water african river community
