today was the end of my cyle (4 weeks) so i decided to get a new fish and when i went to my lfs they were waiting for the truck to come for new fish so i did the same and i got a electric blue to go with my 2 electric yellows and powder blue but when i introduced him the powder blue got him runnin like a track star! he stays in the top and looks scared. hes about the same size as all three so thats not a problem. is it the stress from the shipping? does he need time to settle in? i will have pics tumaro.

could it be playing? but with cichlids being traditionally aggressive i doubt that. It may need some time to settle in. When my pictus catfish came into my tank, the zebra tetras chased him around, off and on, for about 2 days. Now I rarely see that happen. Give it a few days.

The established cichlids have claimed the tank as their territory. If you can rearrange the tank, that should fix the problem... that way, the established territories are all moved around and the original fish don't see it as an invasion. It also helps to feed right as you add a new fish to distract the others.

add more places to hide.more rocks slate etc.
another thing i like to do is wait until evening to buy the fish i want and when im ready to release it into the tank i shut the lights off for the rest of the night.Keep an eye on them by turning on the room light or just use a flashlight to see that everything is ok.
good luck.

Quite a nice fish you have there. The dominant fish have already taken over and a new guy has entered their territory. Rearrange the tank like stated above and see if that fixes the problem

I find that fish can see in the dark quite well with a little ambient light so i don't bother with that. I will sometimes remove the dominant fish for a short period of time (Float him in a bag or cup like the new fish) and re-release him once the new one is in.

Just mix up the territories.
