I have recently been treating my tank for ick, I lost one of my two clowns already. I have maintained a tank temp of 85.6 fahrenheit, and tried using ick guard 2 for 3 days until I realized it is not a good product to be using. I've just noticed a fungas on my clown loaches back dorsal fin, and also in the v of his tail. While my tank temp is up very high, I need to know if I need to get some other med? reduce the temp on him? or what other things, it's a very whitish film, just covering the back of his dorsal, but it looks as if it's already removed some of it and his swimming is now kinda screwy. His colouring over the rest of his body is fine, nice and dark, no graying of any sort which was alot more evident when the ick was more present. I finally have a quarantine tank, that just finished cycling, it is a 15 gallon, but I know I need to maintain the temp on my 30 gallon to kill any remaining ick spores for about another 3 days. Is there some advice as to what I need to do?

If what your loach has looks like a white cottony substance then it's fungus. If it looks like a white/grayish "film" as you describe it then it's sliminess of the skin disease. It is very possible to have co-occuring skin problems with ich.

some meds aren't suitable for loaches as they have no scales, this could be causing some stress. if you want to treat clown loaches with meds some people advise only using half the recommended dosage, i used this for my clown when treating ich and they were all fine.

okay, I've moved the clown to quarantine finally, and it looks like more of a cottony growth as opposed to a film as I had first described, it also looks like it has gone down since yesterday... I'll keep him under observation with a lil ick guard 2 in quarantine for a few days and see how things go.

One type of ich cure I trust is Super Ich Plus by Aquatronics. My dad and I have both used it for ich and like it a lot. It treats ich, white spots, protozoan parasites, ichthyophthirius, and scratch, darting fish.

There is a type of med by the same copmany called Greenex that is more suitable for scaless fish and invertebrates. It treats basicly the same stuff.

I hope all goes well.

P.S.
You could have a parasite.

my catfish just got cured from ick. i used a med called QuICK Cure. u should also take out your carbon cartridge out from your filter as well. if u dont take it out it will filter out the medication and the fish will never get cured. by taking it out, it lets the med stay in the water. if u get this med, add one drop per gallon at a total of 3 dosages (3 days) after the last dosage, wait 24 hours b4 u put back your carbon cartridge into your filter. i hope this helps

I am having the exact same problem. I had two fish, we lost our Pink KIssing Guromi last night so I'm pretty upset about that, he moved with us from Va to Ca, driving! Anyway, one fish left, 29 gallon tank, a black sucky fish and he has white spots all over him which is getting worse. I have been using Super Ick Cure for 3 days now. I did a 20% water change yesterday and that's when Smooches started his decline (he was also about 6 or 7). I read somewhere about adding salt to get rid of the Ick....? Could this help our remaining fish? We just recently added him to the tank, where I'm pretty sure the Ick came from. Sorry, pretty emotional right now, Smooches had a lot of character, we got him from a friend who didn't think he would survive a two hour drive! And I'm feeling a lot of gult right now about the whole thing. Anyway....How can I save the other fish? Thanks

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay it's getting a lot worse in the tank....I think my pleco, the sucky fish, is about to die and I don't know what to do. The ICK cure that I am using isn't working. Can I add another kind without killing him? Does it expire because I know it's old. Is there anyone out there???? PLEASE, PLEASE HELP!

For all my scaleless fish I use Coppersafe for ick. It works great. Clown Loaches are very sensitive to ick and sometimes impossible to cure. If it were my fish i`s use the Coppersafe and Maracyn Plus ( antibiotic ) it had 2 broad spectrum antibiotics and does wonders for fungus. Good luck with you clown. Oh and yes please do treat the entire tank since they were all exposed to the illness.
