For those who use the emperor 280 or 400, buying new filter pads is expensive. Instead get a huge box of activated charcoal, $10. Then use a knife or scissor, cut a slit on top of the wool pad, now it works like a pouch. Just rinse a dirty filter pad with strong garden hose, then hang it, let it dry for few hours or a day. Dump out the old carbon, put some new carbon in, rinse it, bang~! A brand new filter pad, now put it in the filter. So get a few extra pad so you can always have "new" pads ready to go.
