k my emperor 280 just died out on me..(possible that the sands substrate may did something to it) but i have a aqua clear 200 and penguin 170 laying around...things those will be enough for a 28 gallon tank?

The 200 should be plenty for a 28 gallon. You could probably try and salvage some filter media from the 280 but it might be hard to reuse the biowheel.
It might even be worth trying to fix the 280... if Bobas suggestion doesnt work maybe the lfs has some suggestions.

nah i'm not gonna fix it...don't get me wrong the emperor did its job great but the sleek look and non cartridge replacing ac just seems the way to go soooo i got a free emperor 280 if n e one wants to tinker w/ it and fix it and lives in the dfw area of texas is more than welcome to it....i'm a person who also likes to overfilter his tanks i just don't think a ac 200 is enough...now can i just use 2x ac 200 so that way i only have to get another 200 or just use a ac 300?

Use one of the other filter for a while. I would look in catelogs or online for another impeller and or motor for the 280. This is a really good piece of equitment.
