I have a 55 gallon with the fish listed below. I currently have the Emperor 280, but wanted another filter to filter more to accomodate fish load. Should I stick with another 280, or go ahead and get the 400 to go with the current 280? Does anyone know if the 400 is much louder than the 280?

2 Balas
6 Tiger Barbs
7 Zebra Danios
2 Reg Wag High Fin Platys
1 Pictus Catfish
2 Upside Down Catfish
1 Pleco
Soon to get about 3-4 molly's

Eventually will be getting rid of balas when they get too large and also pleco (both currently about 4 in). Will be replacing pleco with dwarf sucker mouth and chinese algae eater. Any comments on whether you feel this aquarium is too overcrowded would be appreciated, since I'm just starting out. I had a previous post with similar question, but I've removed clown loaches so that all fish are 6" or under with average of 4" (with exception of balas, just needed two of them). Thanks.

Your filters should not be Load at all. If they are and you knotice it think about how your fish feel. Fish don't actually hear they feel the vibrations in the water.maybe you should consider switching brands. Or up grade to a canister filter, which are completely silent. As far as your fish load, if you are worried about filtration maybe you should cut down the numbers a bit. As long as they have enough room to move around. Good Luck. :D
