There was just a power outage and since my filters came back on they are both making really loud noises, I cant seem to do anything to make the sound stop. One is an aqua tech the other an emperor 400. Has anyone experieced this and knows how to stop it? It has just got so loud I turned off the filters, I want to fix it before my bio wheels dry up. Please help!

hmmmm. not sure there angel. Are those canister filters? I know if my canisters aren't quite full they are noisy but I don't think the emperor is a canister. Hope you figure it out and sorry I am not much help. :-(

yes i have and it's the pits!fill the filter with water and pull out the flow divereter thingy and check to see how well all the peices are fitting together.mine rattled real bad from day one and eventualy i had to hot glue the flow diverter together.as long as everything fits sung there should be minamal noise.the key is to make sure that anything that can rattle doesn't

Okay I got the aqua tech working without the noise, but the emperor just wont give up. Its working perfectly except for that sound! My dad says it will just 'go away' after a while. Think theres a chance of that? Its driving me insane!

Oh also I pulled out a filter cartridge (to see if that was a problem) and now there is stuff floating about all over my tank. With that and the noise all the fish are hiding at the bottom in the corner :(

Ive finnaly figured out what the sound is like. Its like when you first turn it on and its still sucking up the water. Sounds just like it, except its all the way on. Im gonna have to turn off the filter for the night in a few hours if it doesnt stop ... :(

Hey
Make sure your aquarium is filled up right to the top.
Make sure the emperor is filled up right to the top.
make sure the little flow control lever thing is pulled all the way up
the gurling noise will eventually stop. takes a while. I had one that seemed to go all night and would eventually stop

LOL, thanks for that offer somonas :)

Okay Ive decided that Im going to have to get a new filter, I know that my tank had a lot of filtration before (emperor 400 for a 29 gal.) so Ill probably get a more appropriate sized filter this time. Does anyone have any suggestions to what filter would be good for my tank (brand ect) and where would be the best place to get it (price wise)? Thanks =)

aquaclears are great HOB filters IMO. i run 2 emperors and really dont like them much....if i could go back i would get the aquaclears in a second.

filstar canisters are great, eheims are great, i hear via-aquas are good filters, etc.

i just dont like magnums and fluvals as a personal preference.
