Emperor Filter

#1
The 20 Gallon I'm getting has an Emperor Filter on it. I went to Petco to check it out and the thing is huge! Its got the Biowheel thingy on it and I've heard thats like one of the best things you can get. . . .

Anyone else out there have an Emperor Fliter? How would you rate it?

I have a 39 gallon, a 30 gallon and a 20 gallon all with emperor filters, and they are great! When I first filled my tank that I bought from someone else, of course there was a bunch of stuff in the gravel, even after I washed it, and it was very cloudy. But about 10 minutes after plugging in the Emperor, it was crystal clear. They really do good and have a nice high water output. I believe they'll handle up to a 55 gallon, so in a 20 you'll have super filtration.

My tank has been cycled for a month and the ammonia, nitrite readings have stayed at 0 while I've been slowly adding fish. What I like most is the flow controll. You can turn it down to a trickle during feedings.
I think you'll like it.

I have penguin bio wheels in all three of my tanks.

The 10 gallon Krib fry grow-out tank has the Penguin 100B

The 25 gallon brackish has the Penguin 200B

and the 55 gallon has the Emperor Bio-Wheel 400

I love them! The only problem I have with them is they are very sensitive to water levels when you do water changes...they can somehow sense the water level is low even when the intake in three or four inches below the surface. Then, they just STOP. And it's a bit difficult to get the Emperor going again, it chugs and chugs while you refill the chamber...but they are totally worth it.

haha, that puts Brita water to shame! ;)

I have a XP3 and a 404 on my 75 gallon, so can I join the club too? ( I once had a planted tank with over 7wpg if that helps :)) lol

I have an emperor 400 and for a larger HOB it did a really good job. The impeller would seem to mysteriously unseat itself everynow and then, but a little jiggle and it would straighten up.

And I second what F8Fan said about the water levels.
