if you own an emperor filter and you don't like the cost of repacement cartridges,try this.take a hobby knife or razor blade,shave off the old polyfiber and go but tetra pro 2 media bags and slip them over the old cartridge and fill with carbon like normal.the cost of the emperor carts.is around 9 dollars for 2.the cost for the tetra replacements,11 dollars for 4.i like my emperor but the cost of upkeep sure can be high.with this solution i can do pad changes as offten as i like without the high overhead or odd fitting alternitaves

I like the emperor also but do you really think it makes that big of a differnce?
Why not just go with the whisper 3?

i love emperors, emperors also have biowheels where whisper dont, i havent changed my emperor cartridge in like 5 months, i scrub each cartiridge under running water with a toothbrush for 5 minutes and they work like new again

Anyone know if there is a sponge or foam similar to Aquaclear sponges that are large enough to cut to size for this purpose?

i just use regular filter material and add my own carbon to the the exra cartridges that came with it, you can buy a whole roll of filter material and cut it to fit for almost nothing
