i had a question about the emperor, they say its a good filter because of the bio wheel but since the filter pads are costy i will most likely be using it without the filter pads. will it still be good as everyone says it is?

for biological filtration? yes, but not for mechanical obviously.

you can make your own pads if you like, i do.

just buy the "blue bonded filter stuff" from your LFS and cut pieces to fit the black marineland cartridges....after you remove the blue stuff and the carbon that is already there.

use rubberbands.

they ok filters but at the price you can get a small canister from bigals online.i had nothing but trouble with 400 and i can't wait to shut it down.the thing rattled from day one,it makes tons of noise and there is lots of bypass.just my opinion though.still like the ac500 better, except for the clear case.
