I've always been all for walmart fish supplies, but I am very disappointed in their regent powerheads.

End of Novemeber got 2 power heads, they stopped workin right before christmas, so i returned them and got 2 more.

For christmas i got a $100 gift certificate from the mother inlaw for walmart, so i bought another power head thinking 3 in the tank would be even better.

When i got home, i noticed one of the powerhead i recently replaced stopped working. so i took it out and put the new one in i bought today, it stopped working after 30 minutes

so heres the deal, i now have 2 broke and 1 good power head, at 20 bucks a piece, i'm gunna return all of them and get my 60 bucks. i want to buy 2 power heads for about 30 bucks a piece.

Anyone got a suggestion of a brand or specific powerhead that will last me more than a couple weeks?

and can anyone think of a reason this powerhead failure could be on my part? and not faulty equipment?

i thought maybe the first 2 went because i would turn them off 2 times a day to feed my fish, but the other 2 that died were never even shut off from day of purchase.

thanks for any help! Niki

I dont know anything about power heads, but for hob (hang off back, right?) filters, Whisper is a junk brand, atleast in the 10 gal range and for every one Ive ever owned. They start lovley and quiet, but get noisier by a weeks end, and occasionally will buzz loudly and need to be fiddled with to make it stop, and if the cartridge is the least bit dirty the water starts spilling out where the tube that sucks up water connects unless you pull it up. But then again they are one of the least expensive brands. So if Whisper makes power heads Id say avoid those. Sorry I cant be more helpful.

I am using Aquaclear Powerheads made by I believe Hagen.. I am using two 402 and a 201... the 402 powerheads are in my 55 gallon saltwater tank. and have ran flawlessy.. the 201 is in my 29 gallon freshwater.. these can be bought fairly cheap at petsmart from $14.00 to $30.00 and 126GPH to 400GPH.. I dont know what range you are looking for in GPH.. but this is just my experience with the AquaClear Powerheads.. http://www.petsmart.com/fish/shoppi..._acces_/powerheads/products/product_773.shtml

why buy from walmart? well because it is right down the street, i do not always have the time to wait for something to be shipped. and may need it right away.

yes planning would fix this for me, but me plan? HA lol

Although i have ordered some things from Bigals, and boy that place has some great deals!

i will look into big als for the powerhead being that i do not need them asap.

I ordered a couple hagen aquaclear power heads today from Bigals , thank you for the advice.

Now my question is, is it bad to turn off the power heads a during feeding? Does this affect them or is it hard on them?

Thanks for you help guys! Niki
