Hi all, been a while. Hope you've all been well.

I'm gathering together the kit right now for a new tank. I am getting rid of both 12g 24"x12"x15" in my sig and will replace them with a 48"x15"x21" 55g (uk). It will still be freshwater tropical. I won't be rushing to get this done though as my room where the tanks will be needs redecorating before I do it.

I've been looking at this CO2 system and wondered what you guys thought of it or if you know anywhere I can get a similar setup cheaper? I wrote this fella about a price without the cylinder as I already have a 2kg one here but he hasn't gotten back to me as yet, maybe he doesn't speak good English.:( They sell the cylinders separate for 39 euro's each but to put that kit together from his listings would cost way more.

My Fluval 104 isn't up to the job for this tank so I've decided I like the Eheim filters with the heater in the bottom. I like the idea of no heater in the tank. Does anyone have one or can tell me if they are worth it? Also if you have any knowledge about the wet/dry filters Eheim do it would be good. The 2327 looks like quite a good deal to me as it comes with media, heater and wet/dry for £154 compared to £165 for the 2126 without media. A media pack is £25.

I will have to make a lid and I'm thinking T5's for lighting, they last longer than T8 right and are brighter for the same length? Would I get away with one strip or would 2 be better?

That's about it for now. I'm looking on ebay for stuff cheap but I'll prolly end up getting most of it new. I'll have more questions when I think of stuff. Cheers.

Thanks for the link Lotus, I'm bookmarking that, very helpful, but boy do they have some high prices. I compared the D&D regulator they sell for £64 against the pic from the ebay link I included and they look identical to me so I'll probably order the co² system later on. I already have a ph controller and a couple of 2kg bottles to run it off but I still need buffer solutions to set it up with.

If anyone has experience of the wet/dry filter I'd still be very interested in what you have to say about them. I hear they have a kind of wave action as they work but being as the dry bit takes 1-4 minutes to cycle I wonder how strong it is?

Well I went ahead and ordered the CO² kit for 121 euros all in. I figured I could use it on the current tank till I get the new one anyway and it'll give me a chance to test out the PH controller too. I'm looking at Arcadia luminaires now.:p

Got the CO² set through from Germany, quite quick delivery really. Here's a pic of the set.

The diffuser did have a slight problem as the holes were blocked but a little work with a needle file sorted that out as you can see. Also the top has a tube glued into it that leads down through the hole grid and this was blocked also and I had to drill it out.

Before.

After.

I haven't connected anything up yet to test it out, I need to find a spanner (wrench) big enough to fit the nut first. I did check it fitted my other bottles though as I've heard lots of stories about different thread sizes being used. I thought there was just the disposable and refillable bottles myself so just two different thread sizes. Mine fit anyway so I'm safe. *thumbsups

A little size comparison, 2kg next to the 500g bottle. How long do you lot make one of these bottles last for on your tanks?

It will eventually be used on a 48"x15"x18" or 21" high fairly heavily planted tank though, that's the one I want to know about really.

I got a PH Controller too already to control the solenoid. Does it matter which way the double pronged plug on the solenoid is inserted into it? There is a little hole the solenoids plug that appears to be able to take another pin, I'll post a pic later to show what I mean better. Grub time now.

How's it all going fellas?

I got my hands on an Eheim 2128 external to run this thing and a D&D deltec twin T5 Razor 4ft light fitting for it too. Should be able to grow some pretty nice stuff when I get it set up eventually. Unfortunately I'm stuck in hospital at the moment with a lung problem with no idea when I'm getting out so everything is on hold for now.

I'll post a few more pics or maybe start a journal when I get closer to starting the actual project. Hopefully see you all around when I get home.
