Evaporation O.O

I just got home from work and had to top off my 10g AGA, I do it every night when I get home. It took a little under 1/2 a gallon

That seems high to me...Here is what I'm running on it:

Prizm Skimmer
AC70 (fuge modified) with a 50w stealth heater stashed in it.
Orbit 20" 80w lighting

I'm thinking that having the heater in the AC70 might be causing the excess evaporation since I had to cut out a small section of the lid for the top of the heater to poke out of, but I'm not sure.

I'm curious how much evaporation everyone else gets in day.

We lose about a gallon a day from our 125g tank. It's acrylic, so a fair proportion of the top is covered. It's also very dry where we live, so that probably adds to it.

I have to replace anywhere from 1/4 gal a day to 3/4 gal a day depending on humidity levels. When the temp outside gets low... 0-10 deg F I get alot of evap.
In the summer it is ALOT less.
I have a large foot print/ water air contact so my evaporation rate can be quite high.

Hmm, it has been getting a little colder here this month. I leave the heat on 60-62 during the day so the cats don't freeze. I think I'll just get a glass top to use during the winter and finish building my auto top off system.

my 10g evaps like liters a day mainly cuz theres no light yet

btw a 80w light is probably the main problem...my 25w heats up really fast already....just keep it kinda far from the walls i had a little mold problem but tilex saved me =)
