I have a fishtank that is taller than a 55gallon but has the same dimmensions of 48" wide and 13" deep. It is over 30" high and thus considered an 80 gallon high according to the guy I bought it from 3 years ago. Problem is this----I want to but a wood stand with canopy but Im afraid to place it on a 55gallon rated wood stand just incase it cant support the weight. I cant find anyone that sells a stand for the 80 gallon high in wood.

Any help would be appreciated. I want to get rid of the metal stand I have now.

I wouldn't worry at all about putting it on a 55 gallon stand, provided the stand is made of wood. Most things we buy are grossly "over-engineered" anyway, meaning that they are capable of doing more than we typically have them do. If the stand has vertical pieces of lumber that are on the order of a 2x4 on the corners, then that is more than sufficient to carry the load without buckling. If you could give me the specifics of the stand you are thinking of using, I could crunch some numnbers on it for you. I did my undergrad in structural engineering and this kind of stuff is simple hand calculations.
If, however, the stand is made of metal, then there is a very good chance that it was designed by a structural engineer, and we would only have the metal as thick as necessary t carry the load with a factor of safety thrown in there as well. Steel is more expensive than wood, so wood manufacturers often opt for ease of production over material costs.

dude, you started the same thread 3 different places!

Looking at the posts other people have made, it seems that in fact the stand you want is designed to carry a heavier tank than a 55gallon.
