Ever seen a fish knock itself out?

I just bought soime discus. When the guy was netting them, one (that I chose not to buy ... ) flipped out. It did a 180 spin and zoomed into the glass behind it, knocking itself out. I was sure the thing had died. I was all thinking to myself, "Man, if they go down like that just from the net, I think I'm making a bad buy. Good ole Tetras ... that's where it's at."

Meanwhile, the discus was pure white, lost all its color. It was laying on the bottom, sideways, and it was totally not moving.

The guys shrugs and mutters "Prolly just knocked himself out" ... so I watched for about five minutes while the discus slowly regained his senses and coloring. His eyes were even crossed when he woke up.

I SO thought he was done for.

Anyone ever seen that happen to a fish before? I never knew. . .

I've seen neons and irridescent sharks do it. Crazy little buggers. Always amazes people, they freak out about the dead fish, and before you know it, the thing is swimming around like nothing happened.

Not knock it's self out, but I have seen my blue gourami use an aponogenta stalk with a leaf floating at the surface as a bunching bag.  Hits it, it sways back, hits it again.  He has also pulled the stalk around the tank.

I was at petco once and watched as they were feeding the bala sharks.  One got too excited and slammed right into the side of the tank, I dont think he was quite knocked out, but he was dazed enough to sink to the bottom for a minute or two, that was definately something I had never seen before.
