Well sometimes we all learn something new. The plec you see in my avatar is a L236a I "had" 3 of them with high hopes of getting them to spawn. After letting them all live in separate tanks I finally got a 20L set up just for them. I only had 3 caves, I figured 3 fish 3 caves. It made sense at the time. When I woke up the next morning I found that they had a fight I'm guessing over who got to live in what cave. The girl in my ava ate yes ATE the skin right off of one of the smaller ones and chewed all of the fins down to a nub  I tried saving him but he was to far gone. In the end I had to flush a 90 dolor fish.

So from now on I will always provide more than "enough" caves for the plecs.

Really sorry to hear you lost your pl*co Pure. I have a very territorial clown pl*co that owns two caves! Funny little creatures. You just can't trust those females.

Where are you getting your gups from? The only ones I have issues with are the IFGA ones I bought from a breeder. They are so inbred that if I sneeze near that tank at least 1 will surly die.

The rest of the ones I got are very hardy little fish. I've had them get lost in the mail going to a customer. 14 days in a box and not one of them died. I've also found babies in a a water change bucket days after I did the water change.

Back when I was breeding bettas I would use gups to keep 1 gal betta containers cycled.

I think it was just the batch from Petsmart. I have since returned the dead ones and replaced them with pineapple swords and marigold sword.

Ya I was pretty bummed. Good news is I finally got a guy in Frankfurt to give me a positive ID. I was pretty sure they were a hybrid cross of L236 and L333 or L66. According to him and he actually had pics (never could find any) they are L399s :D.

Ok so that's not L236 like they were sold to me as, but at least now I know what to look for as a replacement.
