going to homedepot later to pick up some acrylic sheets. and glue (aquarium safe glue)

trying to make a 3 gallon sump for my 10g for the experience.

or i can just make my 6g long (which is perfect) into the sump.

*i'll try to take lots of pics and updates.*

i'll probably use this idea

http://www.melevsreef.com/acrylics/sumps/f/sump_f.html

but a smaller scale

I am thinking of making my 33g into a sump, and wondering how to 'convert' it into one... I am THOROUGHLY (sp) confused on how to do this, the pictures are great but I think I am missing something, is the only thing that I have to do is make dividers in the tank..? and can I use simple pieces of acrylic as the person above is going to?

Dennis you can check out this thread it has some pics of the 30gal sump that I built in it.

Yes you can use acrylic pieces to make the baffles in your tank, however, when I use a glass tank to a build sump, I use glass pieces for my baffles. you can get a local glass shop to cut the pieces for you and the pieces shouldnt be more than about $7 a piece.

yeah im going to use weld-on glue #3

btw does anyone know if i can use weld-on #3 to glue acrylic to glass?

i want to use my 6g tank now since its going to cost me more money to get eveything together... but i want to use acrylic as dividers and make the overflow...("weir")

I think you will have to use a thicker glue. Weld- on # 3 wont do the jobs. Something like weld-on # 16 will be much better if you want to glue acrylic to glass.

Weldon will not glue acrylic to glass....period. its for acrylic to acrylic adhesion. There are a couple of ways you can go to attach the acrylic to the inside of your glass tank....1) since there are no "pressure" issues in a sump, you can use silicone to hold the baffles in place....just like you do with glass. or 2) you can get "u" channeled weather stripping and put it around the edges of the acrylic and wedge the acrylic into place
