I have a Aqua-tech 30-60 gallon filter on my 55 gallon tank. I also have a 20-40 off my old tank that I am thinking of putting in also. Would this help out on filtration any or would it be a wast of time? Im also thinking og getting a powerhead to increase water flow across the bottom of the tank, so that waste wont settle as easy. Good or bad idea?

I think it is a great idea there is no such thing as over filteration. And as HanshaSuro said if you get another tank you will have a head start on cylcing a new tank with the new filter also a power head is a good idea I have a aquaclear power head with a quick change filter and it does a good job on polishing the water .
