I've got two longfin, leopard danios in a quarantine tank. One had a popped out, (swollen?) slightly cloudy eye that I noticed about the third day. Most things I have read indicated that if it was only one eye, it was likely an injury not disease, so I've just been keeping an eye on it, since it's a quarantine tank, I'm already paying close attention to them, the water etc. And everything has been good.
Two days ago, I noticed the eye looked clear but had a black ring around it, and today it actually almost seems sunken in. I am not sure what treatment I should use to deal with this. Even an injury can lead to infection, etc, and the fish is not acting what I would consider normal for a danio. She just sort of sits in the current from the filter.
I don't have a lot of experience dealing with disease or injuries in my fish, so I'm not sure what course of action to take. I don't have any meds atm and I'm looking for some recommendations on what to do and what to use if anything.
Other info: The qt tank is 10 gallons, running a huge top fin 60 hob with the flow turned down. I used media from my established tank, along with some gravel. I've only got test strips and an ammonia test. Ammonia is 0 and Nitrates are zero. I'm getting trace nitrites (just a touch pink but not as pink as the second square.) on every tank (3 including the qt) and even the water straight from the tap, so my strips might be an issue and I have a master test kit on the way. These fish will be in a school of five when they are added to the main tank. They've been in the qt a week and a half.
Also, I'm new and not sure if I put this in the right place. If not, I'm sorry. TIA for any help you guys can offer.
