The 'farlowella' cats are excellent algae eaters and, in my opinion, are much more attractive than most of the 'pleco' species. I've kept a number of them in my tanks over the years. The only thing to keep in mind is that they require vegetable food to survive so, should they clear out all of the algae in your tank, you'll need to supplement their diet. I use Hikari Algae Wafers for my 'Royal Farlowella' (Sturisoma sp.)

Love mine. Looks very interesting, is very docile, and easy to care for. Does an okay job with algae. Between him and a few otos I don't have obvious blooms, unlike my 50 gallon. Great fish.
