Feeding Crays?

Does anyone feed their big cichlids crayfish? The guy at my LFS says crays are the way to go with JDs. I live on a farm and my creek has tons of them. Would it be possible they have diseases that could hurt my fish? If so can crays be treated?

I feed my Oscars and JD's craw fish with no problems. They are a big feast down here in the south when they are in season. I have a creek in my back forty that the kids will find them and bring them to the Oscars and Jacks to eat. I regularly feed my Oscars and JD's fresh shrimp from the meat market that I de-shell or sometimes I get lazy and buy the prepared frozen cocktail shrimp at the grocery store.
