I currently have an 8" pleco, I used to feed him cukes slices but for some reason they were causing algae in the tank and I had to stop, now I have been feeding him wafers but I don't feel like that is enough food for him. Does anybody know what I could feed him that would not cause algae? please help.

The food that you put in that is causing algae is good for your pleco. He will eat the algae in the tank. I have a pleco in my 10 gal tank and there is no algae in the tank at all.You could also try feeding other vegetable matter.

whoa there partner,im hearing 2 anwasers that do nothing to solve the algae problem.first of i doubt that feeding cukes could cause an algae break anymore than any other food which will eventualy be turned into rotting matter at the bottom of the tank.as for shrimp pellets, that would most likely just fuel the problem,as most prepared foods have a higher level of ash and phosphates than fresh food.next,i wouldn't encourage algae growth in your tank for a couple of reasons.first, you haven't even discribed what kind of algae it is.plecos don't always eat algae either.i wouldn't wish bba or blue-green slime algae on anyone who keeps fish as they can be a pita to get rid of.so let's start with the basics
tank size, water parameters, how often inbetween water changes, filtration, amount of time the lights are on in a days.there is more than one reason for the algae.
