I got three yesterday (at $1.49 each I think that's not bad) and was wondering on the color.  Right now they are each about a half inch and all three have the same body color, a cream with 2 black stripes going down each side.  But each one has a different color tale and fins and those two things that hang down from under the mouth are different than the body color.  I think these are freshly hatched so will their color change at all with age or am I stick with dull colored bettas?  Not that that's a problem but I just want to know what to expect.

The horizontal stripes are from being stressed out.  They'll disappear when the fish isn't stressed out anymore.

The color might change.  However, you might just have Cambodian, yellow, white, or pastel females.  Males will come in really light colors as well if they are any of the above.

Unless you purchase really beautiful purebred female bettas, the color selection you find at your LFS are going to be very very drab. The girls are just not as pretty as the boys are, especially when they are "mutt" bettas.

If you want to see some truely, truely beautiful to drool for betta's, visit www.bettatalk.com.  Of course, you'll be spending about $150 per pair, but hey, if you are truely honest to earth wanting to breed bettas, better off starting with the best blood out there instead of the LFS ones.
