Fighting Ich Log

#1
Let me first say, I know nothing about Ich, except what I am learning from the users on this website. I have no idea on how dangerous it is to the fish or what other affects there may be. So, I am just reporting what I see and do while hopefully successfully treating it in hopes of helping other members who run into this for the first time.

Noticed white specs on a fish, which led to me to ask for help on this website.

Figured out it was Ich with the help of some MyFishTank.net users, who also helped me start to treat it. Looking closely, I also noticed it on most of other fish in my tank. I raised the temperature in my tank from 80 F to 84 F as well as adding 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt per every 5 gallons of tank water.

I did my regular weekly water change, and added back in the needed ammount of aquarium salt for the replaced water. Spots are still very noticable on all the fish I have previously seen it on, but all seem to be acting normal, except one Neon Tetra that died. Out of all the Neon Tetras, it had looked the worse.

Seems like nothing but good news today. Most of the fish have noticably started to clear up. None of the fish are acting like the Neon Tetra before it died.

Did another water change and added back in the needed ammount of aquarium salt for the replaced water. Fish are visably clearing up even more, but still seeing some specs.

2/1/06
Second fish died. This time it was a Molly who I noticed has been swimming at a akward angle the night before. All the other fish continue to clear up and appear to be acting healthy.

I will keep this log updated as I continue to try to cure the fish in my tank. Please feel free to reply with any other advice or knowledge to help my tank get through this, and it will probably help anyone else who reads this for help in the future.

I would maybe up the water changes to 2-3 times a week instead of just one. This will help get rid of the free swimming Ich. (It's floating in the water before it attaches itself to the fish and forms a white spot).

Other then that, everything you are doing is right on. Good Luck!!!
