I am getting a new canister filter since my Fluval just isnt working out. I am wondering what you guys suggest. My biggest issue right now is getting CO2 injection to work and have an adjustable flow rate. I have a newt tank this filter will go with and I need to be able to turn down the output so that there is little current in the tank (its a 20L btw). I am thinking right now of getting a Cascade 500 or 700 because that is what my LFS uses for CO2 injection. I am not sure if this is the best choice. I am worried about CO2 bypass and getting a woosh of air bubbles like I am getting now with my Fluval 104.

Which do you think is best solution for me? Keeping in mind adjustable output and CO2 injection.

Thats a small tank to be running a canister on. Have you looked into just using a HOB instead? I know the Whispers come with adjustable flow rates.

I've never used a canister itself for Co2 injection, but I do know that some people have had difficulties with doing that.

I bought a very expensive cascade cannister filter for a 55 gallon and I had so many problems with that pos. It would work fine for days at a time then just start leaking or stop sucking water. I came home to the suprise that it had leaked and then the floor under the 55 gallon got wet and started shifting. We moved the tank to a framed up built in, in another room. What do we find under the floor - subflooring swelled up like a blow fish from the water. So now we have to remove the subflooring in that spot and replace it. I know that I may have ended up with a defective one, but I can not recommend their cannister filter.

We shall see I guess ;) Also the canister filter i am getting is too large for my 20L but I can turn down the flow which helps alot :D For some reason the Cascade 500 was more than the 700 @ bigals.

i hate my cascade cannister filter. i bought it about 6 weeks ago for my 55 gallon goldfish tank. it never worked properly. last night i browsed as many websites possible for troubleshooting, refilled the cannister, hooked the hoses back again, primed it, and it worked well for about 30 minutes. the next morning there were still particulates floating in the water, it was still tinted greenish from a treatment i added the week before, and the flow rate was once again low. i. hate. it.

I think that everyone has a different opinion about what should work and what does work. I think that you shouldn't have a problem with a cascade 500 for your tank. I am not sure if it is the "best" for your size, but if it does what you want then nobody elses opinion should matter.
