Filter Catridge Problem

In my 10g, my filter is a Whisper Power filter. I've noticed lately that every time I changed the filter, a couple days later it is all brown and thick with crap. This lowers my flow out of the filter into my tank. I was wondering what is happening because I don't put my hands in the tank between from when I changed the cartridge and when it is really thick. I was thinking about buying a different filter because I am just sick of seeing it all brown with crap after I changed it the day before:mad: Does anyone know what is happening?

what is your substrate, i used flourite, and even after (what i thought was thoroughly cleaning it) i didnt and for months i had something like mud in my filter.

can you shorten the intake tube, if the substrate is the culprit?

are you overfeeding and leaving the filter on maximum intake while you feed?

i dont know your tank so its hard to say. but those are a couple of things i can think of

I think it is the substrate too. I have Shulz's aquatic soil and my filter cartridge looks like mud lol. I can take off the end of the intake just to have a little bit in the water. I try that and respond.

Shows its working good really. Better taking it out then leaving in. Are you overfeeding or overstocked? I would just frequently cahnge it then. WHisper filter cartridges are pretty much reusable. Blast the cartridge then put in new carbon (if you even use).
