Filter floss sources

I have a real problem not over-paying for filter floss. Most of the floss I see seems to come in small brightly coloured boxes, at designer prices, for what should be after all, a fairly cheap product.

Anyone ever get this in bulk? - like a refuse sack size lump of it. Or is there a more readily available alternative (or does it go by a different name in another trade).

I have one problem tank that just eats this stuff. I'm working on the problem, but until then this is a major sticking point with my wallets sensibilities.

I have heard some people buy batting from craft stores. I believe there are some that are treated without chemicals. Apparently you can buy it in a big pack or by the yard/metre.

I get the craft polyester that is not treated at Walmart. I have been using for over a year now, and the large bag of it has lasted almost as long. It was worth it at $1.29 for a pillow size bag.

The LFS's . . . at least in this area all carry a generic kind of filter floss in a big bag for about $2-3.98 USD. The Wal-Mart suggestion sounds like a winner.

i use the HBH brand filter floss they sell at petsmart for ~$2.50, works great and lasts several months.

the stuff at walmart is a bit cheaper and probably just as good though.
