AquaClears are also great filters for the price. All my tanks have AquaClears on them of one size or another. The more filtration the better. I have a AC300 and a Magnum H.O.T. 250 on my 55 gal, which cycles the water in the tank approx 10 times in an hour. www.bigalsonline has awsome prices on filter, heater ect. I recieve my orders in around 3 day.

Im going to go with eheim. They may be a little more expensive but its worth it. I have an eheim running on my 55 and it has been running for about 15 years. All it has needed was an impeller about 2 years ago. It still runs great. It will cost more but there is an obvious benefit inn the long run.

I've got a penguin 330 and a Filstar XP1 cannister on my 55G planted tank. Seems to be a pretty good combo. The Filstars are very good cannisters and much cheaper than a eheim. Not saying that they are as good as eheim, but not far behind them for a fraction of the cost. If i could do it over again I wouldn't get the penguin 330 though. Probably get either a emperor 280 or a aquaclear 300 on there.

Tetratec vs. Emperor

What about for a planted tank? In other words, water displacement wise. I wanted to get a Tetratec but am worried about my CO2 being released. So I thought I would go with an Emperor 400, but a also heard that they displace the water to much. Suggestions?

why do you want a tetratec, i have never heard a godo comment about them while ive heard many many bad comments about them, they are very noisey, they will dissipate alot of co2, if power goes out and they dont cut back on the builtin heater with shatter, emperors make too much movement for a planted tank, id go with an eheim or if you cant afford one a fluval (both canisters) they have great filtration and can be positioned to make little surface movement

Well I wanted a Tetratec b/c of the neat built in heater, pluse our power never goes out.

But if I need a canister filter thats a whole different thing. I've only ever had power filters, and don't know the first thin about cannisters. (Maybe I should start another thread for that)
