I have an Oceanic- 40 gallon hexagon tank with a Penguin BIO-Wheel Power Filter (200 50 gal). I am not really happy with the Bio wheel since the wheel is no longer spinning and it also makes a lot of noise. So I decided to invest in a Canister filter. Can you please give me any suggestions on a good canister filter? I have tetras, guppies, and zebra danios. Also, is the Eheim Filter 2217 too powerful for my system?

There's not really such a thing as "too much" filtration. As for a good filter, filters are like a religion - everyone will swear by a different brand/model as being the best. I personally like my Rena XP3, and it's not very expensive. Eheim are very good filters too, so are Fluval.

Re: your current filter, if the biowheel is not spinning, there is proabably something slowing the flow to it, try to take apart and clean your filter assembly.

I have a little biowheel filter on my hex tank. The wheel stopped spinning because the intake got clogged a little. Just had to clean it out. But they are the only things I have atm, no other filters.
