I have a 55 gallon tank with 2 oscars about 8 inches long,I feed them pellets and feeder goldfish, and I have an Eheim 2026 professional II and a penguin 170 with a biowheel. My question is, would a emperor 400 filter help keep my tank cleaner?I know oscars are a messy fish,I do water changes every 2 weeks but it still gets so dirty on the bottom.I also have a hagen powerhead in the tank and am thinking about quick filter in it or a sponge.Would that help?I have killed(or maybe the oscars did) 2 pleco's, I cant seem to keep them alive. Please Help,Thank you.

I would get the 400. Get it from Bigalsonline, the cheapest place. I have 2 oscars in a 100 gallon with a Aqua Clear 500 and Emp 400 as well as a 2028! Clean as can be. I do water changes once a week, about 20-30%. You can try that as well.

I have one oscar in a 45 for the moment and am using the emperor 400 and his tank water stays perfect. I dont really think there is much you can do about the dropings on the bottom other than vacum it up.

Not much you can really do except go to weekly water changes. You've 2 big fish in a relatively small tank. Maybe thin out the substrate to make hoovering more effective?Watch out for overfeeding too, and pack in using feeders - messy, cruel and eventually it'll cause problems - diesease, fatty bad tempered fish...

How does the Emperor compare to the Fluval. Been thinking of getting rid of my Eclipse. Which is easier to clean and maintain too. Tank isn't as clear as it should be so I'm considering a change.
I just ordered an Emporer 400 and a H.O.T. Magnum 250 and a Magnum Power Kleen from Big Al's for my new 46g. Both are $39.99 and the Power Kleen is $9.99.

The 400 will be my every day filter and I will use the Magnum to polish the water when needed and with the Power Kleen to vacumn.

The Fluval 304 with media is $74.99. So for just $15.00 more I feel like I can do more and its easier to maintain.
