Filter Question

Ok here is the deal:

I bought a 55 gal. tank from PetSmart. It was the starter set, and came with the tank, filter, heater, etc.... Well the filter it came with is a Top Fin 60. Dual carbon filled cartridges. Anyway, I recently bought a Magnum 350 for it. Now, should I keep both filters goin at the same time for a while or can I just take out the Top Fin and not disrupt the water?? Thanks for any info!

let the magnum run with the other fiter for about a month to help establish bacteria.after that you can take of the topfin if you like.

Just be aware that the magnum is mainly a good mechanical filter. If you have a high fish density, then the magnum might not work well biologically.

(this is what I have read. no actual experience with it.
