filter slowed down

I have a Trigon with the Juwel Jumbo and I am not all that impressed, I also have an Eheim 2126 running on that tank.
The Juwel design is pretty simple really, the powerhead sucks the water through the up pipe which means the water is drawn from the side and top slots through the various sponge filters.
I would check the following:-
a. that the powerhead is fully operational, the impeller is not obstructed for example (you can remove it from the tank and check it in a bucket)
b. that all the sponges are not bunged up, perhaps just give each a rinse in tank water
c. that the bottom of the filter housing is not completely gunked up
d. that the slots are not obstructed (check side slots and the top slots that skim the surface water.
e. finally refit the powerhead and observe whether it's correctly drawing water through the filter sponges.
