 I have a question. My current filter system, which is Top Fin 20 (came with tank), isn't really working very well the water is running out of the spot where the intake hose comes up along with where it is suppose to. I have to change the filter at least every other week because it gets clogged up and smells. Well anyways, I went to a little local fish store and they had Imagine BioSystem 25 power filter -plus- oxysurface skimmer for $18. The guy said that they are newer to the market and has no experience with them, to give me advice on if they are good or not. I bought it hoping somebody can help me out. I have not put it in my tank yet, wanted to wait until tomorrow. So what do you all think, is it good or not good?

I've never heard of it...but saying its a powerfilter I'd think its probably an HOB similar to your Whisper. Personally the HOB that I like the most that I have is my Aquaclear...given that the pet store guy didn't know anything about them either, I dont know that I'd try it. I'd look at an Aquaclear that is rated for at least a 30 or so...and go with that.

If your Whisper is getting clogged that quickly it'd lead me to believe that your tank is either really overstocked or maybe you should step up the maintenance. No matter the cause...getting a new HOB that is similar to the same one you have is probably not going to fix the issue. it might temporarily....

If you do decide to go with the new one you picked up, be sure to switch your filter media from the other filter over so you won't have to re-cycle your tank.

I never thought about the switching the media. I think I'll wait on putting it in until I read up on it alittle more. I have to go to Petsmart tomorrow maybe I'll see what they have there.

I always end up with clogged Tetra Whisper filter cartridges within about 1-2 months' time. For this reason, my policy has been to simply toss them and replace them with an AquaClear 50 sponge insert, which essentially lasts forever.
