Okay, I've been fishkeeping for years now and I've heard so many different things. So many people go through elaborate types of filtration from cartridges to ceramic, carbon, wool, floss, fiber, sponges, biowheels, lava rocks, peat, etc. Does any or all of this beat good old fashioned weekly partial water changes along with some mechanical filtration using some type of fiber or floss? I'm using an Emperor 400 with a bio wheel for biofitration and some filter fiber for mechanical. I do weekly 20% water changes. I can see using carbon to remove medicines but is there really any benefit to using all this stuff if you're not overstocked?
