Neither of those are going to be used on that 10g. They are for my next tank, which I am in the planning stages of getting (54 - 92 gallon corner). That 10g is my breeder/QT tank, so sometimes its in habited while right now, its not.'

The two HOT (Hang on Tank) Filters I got are my first endeavor into canister filtration. I bought them used from somebody on craigslist. They retail for $50 each (I stole them $35 for the pair - and they're like new). They are virtually silent running, and you have the option of putting whatever type of media inside you choose. Specifically, you can choose if you want carbon, etc. inside the canisters, or just use them for strictly mechanical filtration. Others here are more qualified to discuss canister filters, so I'll let them.

As far as costs, they go up to several hundred dollars if you want an expensive one. Maintenance isn't much. I got a pack of 3 foam covers for $5 at my LFS, carbon varies in price, but isn't that much. The Micron filters can be expensive ($10ish) if you use one, but those can be maintainted to last a really long time if you clean them properly. Probalby just as cheap, or cheaper, than buying the stupid Eclipse cartriges for my system 2 tank.

I have an Eclipse hood too. I use an old Eclipse filter frame as a pattern and cut a piece of blue bonded filter material that is roughly the same size or a little bit longer and wider. I use 2 rubber bands to hold it together and presto, no more need to buy the Marineland cartridges. This saves a few bucks.

got damn. What's the 2 liter bottle with the hose in it for? Just curious.

I have the HOT Magnum Pro (with the 30 biowheel). It's great. Keeps my 29 g crystal clear. One day I pulled out the carbon media container and didn't have any new carbon for it, so I ran to the lfs for a micron filter. $16! Then when my thatfishplace order came in with the carbon and same micron filter (for $7), I took the new one back to the lfs and got my $16 back.

Ahhh - I love ordering supplies from those wholesalers. Saves a bunch!

That 2L is for CO2... I have plants sprouting in that tank.

My connectors all came in, so it's properly hooked up now, with each HOT magnum outputting to it's own Biowheel 30, instead of 1 magnum going to both 30s (in 60 config).

I've got everything I need for the tank now, except for the actual tank, stand, and glass-top. I'm waiting until after my wife and mine's anniversary on Oct 23rd, because I have the sneaking suspision I'm getting 1/2 of it (either the tank, or the stand) from her for a gift... and she'd be really mad if I went out and bought it first.
