I am fish sitting for a co-worker's betta. His name is Ted. He's large and has a broken fin. Part of his fin is shorter than the rest of the fin. I really can't explain it well. I have been putting Melafix and stress coat in his water for the past seven consecutive days. My questions: (1) Does anyone know how long it will be before I see some improvement? (2) How can I tell if this fin was like this at birth or broken later in his life. I know these may be stupid questions but at least I am asking them. Please remember I am a beginner so bear with me. Thanks so much. :)

Broken is a little hard to picture.

Which fin, top, back, bottom?

Is the fin look torn, ragged,? Are the edges grey or white or black?

Don't bother with stress coat, thats for slime.

Melafix/Bettafix (same stuff) will help, it takes a few weeks for it to grow back.

Thank you fishdude07 and Iggy.

fishdude07 - I'll try to take a picture.

Iggy - It's the bottom fin and when I first noticed it, it looked straight edge and no grey, white or black edges but the edge does look darker color than the rest of the fin.

I appreciate your response, I guess I will be keeping her fish a little longer. :)
