Ok in my 29 gallon tank i have noticed my guppies are getting finrot. I thought i saw this last night, but couldn't get a good view to tell. Today i sat and watched for a while, almost all of my guppies have finrot starting on their tail. It is not bad rinrot just frayed edges. I have tried the jungle fizz tabs but don't want to go that route again. My tank is on last stretch of cycle before it is complete, i will test water tomorrow morning. I am wondering if i can use melefix in the tank and will it be safe for my kuhli, dojo, black loaches? I am done getting guppies as they are the only fish i have had get sick on me.... seems like they always get finrot. I have increased the water temp to 82 and added aquarium salt to help disease but no luck from what i can tell. The fish seem ok just that thier tails are frayed... sometimes i see them "relaxing" toward bottom of tank, not sitting on bottom but hoovering around a shaded place. So what is best treatment for finrot? How long does it take to cure if i am successful in treatments?

i have moved three guppies into my 10 gallon tank, They are the only ones with finrot signs.... the tails are frayed no chunks missing

IT seems the male guppies are the ones getting finrot as my female guppies are fine. I am going to LFS soon this morning to buy melefix,

I have two guppies that had sever finrot, chunks missing from tail, how can that be cured? The finrot has not gotten worse but they still look ugly. I have read about clipping tails of fish with finrot, is this an option?

ok melefix says to remove activated carbon fgrom filter if possible. I have called their 800 number no answer, online has no guidance so i am stuck. I can remove my filter but my question is do i remove it for the entire 7 day treatment cycle or just when adding melefix into tank? I need to know so i can start treating them as one is laying on bottom of tank like he is tired... so want to start treatments asap.

The carbon should be seperate from the filter? Just remove the "bag" or "pouch" of carbon and leave your filter running normally with whatever filter media is in there.

I have the whisper filter for 10 gallon tank. The filter cartridges that i replace every 4-6 weeks are bought at walmart, they come with ultra activated carbon inside the cartridge. So i cannot remove just the carbon. But the filter also has the sponge thing for good bacteria to grow on. So with this system i should remove the cartridge for duration of treatments correct?

thank you cable... I decided to remove the cartridge completely, will add empty one if need be but water is clear, will treat for seven days and add filter back.

The clipping of fins was not to cure finrot or remove it. I read it was a eyes thing... meaning, that finrot is ugly looking, and one person cut the torn raggy part of tail to make it clean and straight. The fish lived and part of tail regrew, but i don't need to do all that for a 99 cent guppy. So i am going with the melefix seems easy enough to use and treat with that combination.

yea the clipping was like one in a million type thing, i have only seen one story of it, but i won't do all that for my fish sorry. I have started treatment so hopefully it was caught soon enough to avoid any fatalities. Thanks for the info MFT members it helps alot.
