First post here. Hello to all myfishtank members.

Along with my first post I have a question.

Just recently bought a used tank.
14G, aqua tech 5-15 filter, 100w heater.

I have an established filter with gravel since I bought this tank off of someone who was using it up until the day I picked it up.

The tank stays a consistent 80-81 degrees F WITHOUT the heater. Is this ok for the cycle phase? what about after the cycle? I'm sure i'll need the heater once winter comes around but until then my apartment stays pretty warm.

i have a 55g with no heater and my tank is at about 78/80 and my fish are all happy and swimming so i would think so yes

I'd do some research on the fish you want. I have some S barbatus that can tolerate 80s for a brief period (like when fighting a fungus), but for long term they prefer the low to mid 70s.

In the summer my tank stays at 81-82 without a heater. In the winter the heater keeps the tank at 79. Research the kind of fish you want. Many tropical fish trive in 80F water.
