My 29 gallon eclispe has 6 painted white skirt tetras in it.  I was thinking of adding 6 cherry barbs and some cories.  I was wondering if regular gouramis would be compatable with these guys. They're labeled "semi-aggressive" so would they harass my other fish? Dwarf gouramis run $5-7 here and I'm tight on money so I thought I'd add a blue and a gold gourami at $3 each.

Also, I have a paradise fish that I'd like to put in there... I know they're fin nippers, is it worth the risk?

That should work out fine..... only if you are gonna get gouramis, dont get more than one male. They are very territorial with each other. The paradise would be a no-no because they do NOT get along with gouramis. I have a paradise in my two gallon that doesn't have a tail anymore, from my stupidity of putting him with a pair of golden gouramis.Gouramis are great fish to have and are very colorful.... hope you like them as much as i do *thumbsupsmiley*

If I remember correctly, nitros- bacteria will go in a "slumber" sort of mode for about two weeks if there is nothing to consume. After that two weeks they will start to die off...

I was a chicken, even with a fishless cycle I added my fish slowly.  I had most of them in another tank so I knew them and would have been heart broken if they died.  So I moved them at about 4-6 a week, and did water tests in between.  It worked well for me.
