a few weeks ago, i was at my fav lfs. they were advertising a "fish dish". according to them, it helps prepare the food and keeps the tank clean. i was intrigued, but expected to find some high priced contraption. i asked anyway. i was shown a clear plastic tube that was about 6 inches long. at the bottom of the tube was a clear plastic tray. attached to the tube was a pair of suction cups. the idea is, you mount the tube in your tank using the suction cups. have the top of the tube protruding from the water. you place your flakes, bloodworms, etc in the tube. as it becomes saturated, it sinks down the tube and onto the tray. the fish can now eat the food.

i thought about it and passed. now, after reading about the importance of soaking some foods, i thought there may be something to this. and, then there's the added benefit of the food staying in the dish. although, prolly not entirely true. but, less uneaten food should sink to the bottom.

my main reservation is that the tray is not that big. i think there would be a crouding problem at feeding time. that's now, and we haven't stocked the tank fully yet. also, i'd have to rig something, a funel perhaps, to the automatic feeder to get the food to go into the tube opening.

i'm going to pick up a pleco on friday at this store. i'm thinking about trying one out. anybody have any experience with these things?

i think the cost was ~$5.

at only $5 its worth a shot, maybe not for worms, but defiately for pellets, i know that my gravel looks just like pellets, so there is no way of clecting un eaten pellets, and my fish dont seem to notice much of a difference anyway.

If you dont like it, take it out, its only $5 :)

well, i'm going to give it a shot. the main staple of their diet is flakes. i haven't tried pellets. i am concerned that the rainbows will get more than the danios and barbs. they're WAY bigger. but, we'll see how it goes. like you said michael999, it's only $5.
