I have a 30 gallon tank with only 4 fish in there now - 2 Cichilds (1 parrot and 1 blue peacock - both are fairly large) ... 1 of what I think is some type of Dwarf Gourami .. and the other a very small striped fish that I can't remember or identify.
Anyway, I've heard different things over the years:

every other day
every day
2x a day

what is correct?

Thanks in advance.

Nevermind I'm not even sure if my info is accurate because now that I think about it I'm not sure what kind of parrot you have. And the Peacock only gets to 5 inches and I'm not too familiar with its behavior aside from it being territorial. You should take pix of your fish or get the scientific names for them so we can better assess them for you.

I would feed 1x a day for now. The peacock is omnivorous and I'm sure the parrot is too? A mix of flakes/bloodworms should be fine for everyone but you might be able to feed the peacock and the parrot more than just that

I personally feed all my fish twice a day. I never did the once or every other day schedule because I always knew that a big part of a wild animal's day is foraging, so they most likely get at least some food every day.

Actually in the wild fish don't always get a full meal everyday. The "twice a day" instructions on most fish containers are just to make you buy more fish food. Throughout the day your fish will bounce around an established tank and eat micro organisms, so it's not like they're just not eating. Feeding fish a real "meal" every other day is a good idea to keep water clear and fish happy. :)

On another note, your tank sounds overstocked, you might want to look into that, otherwise you will soon have major issues with your water parameters and that will end up with dead fish, no matter how many times a day you're feeding them.

i only feed once a day and i have cut back on quantity i use to give.
overfeeding = MORE WORK
trust me i know
it can be hard to figure out how much (feeding 1 time a day)
totally depends on what kind of fish your feeding, how many your feeding etc.
like i said if you overfeed your gonna have problems
hope this helps

Keeping regular comminity fish i fed once a day or every other day.

With the cichlids I feed at least once a day...occasinally twice a day if they wiggle at me enough lol..and if I miss a day that is ok. But my fish have lived years on every other day feedings in the past.
