Took some pictures recently but never uploaded them until now.

First off, one of my favorite Malawi Haps of all the Deep Water Hap

Red Empress male

Female when she was holding

One of the hardest cichlids to take pics of - Holding at this moment

Mbuna

Sorry they arn't Verse quality. ;) I recently, in very tragic events, lost all my Deep Water Haps and male Red Empress. Working to restock my tank now.

The lower Male Empress pic and the last Mbuna shot were both the only ones taken without the flash. Some people prefer not to use the on camera flash but i tend to like it (And right now have no alternative lol). Brings all the little sparkles at if you know how to aim right so you don't get so much feedback. I want to get a slave flash setup to flash down from the top.

Shooting all stock Canon 300D. Hopefully will customize the setup a bit more this Christmas. ;) I have access (sometimes) to my Dad's D70s, but he takes it on business a lot of times. Top notch camera there, its all stock too.

Thanks

Cool. I like the two pics where the flash wasnt used best...it shows the true color. Ive never seen a red empress pic taken with the onboard flash show its true colors. the slave setup is one of the best things you can get for the camera...I have a second wireless flash on order :)

Truely great pics Matt. Everytime I see either Verse's or your pictures it does make me re-think the stocking of my tanks to show some love for the other lakes. :)

Sorry to hear about the loss of the fish. I loved the deep water haps. Those are among my favorite haps. Your not the only one feeling the pinch of fish losses. Out of my original 16 cyprichromis, I have 5 left...

As usual, those pics are awesome Matt...I dont know HOW you take them with flash on and not SEE the flash-light reflected in the glass of the tank! Those Empress fish are just too awesome for words, sorry about the losses tho, sux every time.

Thanks.

Working with the flash is easy. :) Its just a matter of knowing how bright your flash is and where it reflects in your tank. And knowing at which angles produce that feedback. I have rocks placed stratigically around my tank to serve as backgrounds to reduce or eliminate feedback...thats the case in the first and last shots, as well as the yellow lab pics.

I always shoot at a downward angle, never an upward one.

Sometimes you get no feedback but you overexpose the fish, like the gill areas and mouth on the yellow labs above. That might be able to be taken out through image editing software.

I had a question...

I wanted to say thanks for responding to my question on cichlids and their chasing behaviours. They seem to be doing fine now. Also, I love the pics, great job! But heres a question you may know the answer to... Is it true that feeding cichlids shrimp will reduce their colors and their health? I read this somewhere and oops I already did that. I have 2 green terror cichlids or at least thats what i was told, I've also searched the web and have found that some refer to them as texas cichlids. I'm really not sure about the whole thing. I've been feeding them and 2 catfish a variety of flakes, spirulina and shrimp. Thanks again for your help.

Shrimp are acctually said to bring out the red in fish and are supposed to be a good treat in the diet.

Thanks for the comments everyone, i need more fish to take pics of...i know you are all getting bored with seeing the same ones over and over. Who lives nearby, i can come take pics of your fish! ;)
